Paging Dr is here to share information and support helpful discussions about GAMSAT, graduate medicine admission and working as a doctor. Posting to the Forum
Be active in the forum. What you put into the forum is what you get out of it. Be willing to give something of yourself (e.g. a post in the Hello! Board) before you ask for something. If you are going to be away for an extended period, let us know - so we don´t start worrying and wonder what happened to you.
View the descriptions for each board before randomly posting in the first board you click on.
Sticky posts: If you see a post stickied to the top of a board, please read it. These posts contain useful links and simple posting guidelines. If you have not made the effort to read these posts, please do not be offended if nobody makes the effort to respond to your post.
Please do your research first. Use the Google Search box at the bottom of the main forum page to search the forum only. Odds are that someone has had a similar question.
When not to create a new topic thread: If a thread for your topic exists, post to it with the reply button. When you post a reply to an old thread, that thread is immediately bumped to the top of the list.
When to create a new topic thread: If your question has not been covered and there is no suitable thread for it. Ask a specific clear, meaningful, well constructed question, details and examples help and people will be more likely to reply. Give it a meaningful post name (not "Help me!!!!!!!! " or "What should I do?") If you found your answer elsewhere, please post it for the next person.
Avoid hijacking other members' discussions. An example of hijacking is when someone posts a question about ANU offers in a Canberra Study Group thread. Such posts will be deleted.
Double posting: back-to-back posts from the same member are usually not necessary, particularly if the last post was made within 24 hours. Modify the existing post and use [ hr] to separate the new text from the old. If the last post is more than 24 hours old, press reply to create a new post.
No Chat Threads: If a thread says NO CHAT, this means we are using the thread to collect information, such as GAMSAT results, offer details, introductions, interview experiences. Please post only the information we request in these threads. We have separate threads for you to offer your congratulations/commiserations.
No txt typing. What is appropriate for your mobile phone is not appropriate here.
If you register and do not post within 7 days, your account will be deleted. All boards are open for unregistered visitors to view. You only need to register if you intend to post to a board.

Hi WB, Would you mind clarifying the guidelines around 'double posting'? I'm not 100% clear on what you mean by 'back to back' posting etc? Thanks RL
Edit: isolate the Double Posting rule

Double posting is when two (or more) consecutive posts have the same author. A member pressed the 'reply' button on their own post. This has the effect of continually bumping the thread to the top of the most recently posted threads. If you want to add to your last post, it is better to use the modify button. If necessary, you can separate the old and new information by using the > button to draw a horizontal line.
If the thread has not been updated for 24 hours, then it is OK to double post and bump it to the top of the most recent posts. Any interval less than 24 hours suggests the member is seeking attention. A lesser issue is that double posting distorts the post count.

Just thought I'd underline that request, given that there a few members whose posts resemble something that belongs on a Hannah Montana forum, than one designed for adults intent on pursuing graduate studies. Please be a bit mindful of the fact that punctuation and correct spelling and grammar are somewhat expected as a part of forum etiquette. Many members will simply not read your posts at all if you write them like a 12 year old kid. Occasional slip ups and typos are to be expected (and totally forgiven) - but continuous leet/txt shorthand is simply obnoxious.

FORUM ETIQUETTE « Reply #5 on Nov 5, 2008, 1:49pm »
Forum Etiquette
Please do not try to convert anyone to your way of thinking, whether it be your internet browser/religious preference or any other kind of preference. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and should not be made to change it because you do not agree with it. If someone offers an opinion with which you disagree, then either disagree in a friendly way or ignore the thread/post.
Discussion/debate threads are for informed discussion: A post which only says "Hear! Hear!", "Here! Here!", "I agree", in a discussion thread, will be deleted. As a guide, discussion posts should be at least four sentences long. Anything less shows that not enough thought was taken in the post.
Several members of Australian medical school staff are forum members. You are welcome to discuss with them issues which would also interest other members. If you have a personal or urgent question, please send them an email.
If you are being sarcastic, do not be surprised if the other party does not see it that way. You should have said it the way you meant it.
Please refrain from personal attacks, bullying, belittling of members. Two or more members attacking a single member is an example of bullying. Telling someone how to behave because they are a medical student/future doctor is an example of belittling. If a discussion becomes nasty, moderators will either lock the thread or move it to the RANTS board.
Any member, who believes they are being flamed (targeted for a harassment) by one or more members should send a PM to Admin, or any staff member, immediately.
Members, who receive unwanted messages through the forum’s Personal Message system, should send a PM to Admin or any staff member, immediately.
Avoid using terms which relate to the Paralympians, physical or intellectual disabilities, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, political beliefs, race, gender, age, academic background, differences in life experience, occupation, place of residence, place of study etc in a derogatory manner.

Before you ask your question, visit the home page of the university which interests you. The first post of each University thread contains the link to the University home page. A full list of home pages are available here.
The following useful information about the application process can be found at the Paging Dr web site:
The Admission Time Line - when you have to place your application form, when interview offers are sent, when interviews are conducted, when med / dental school offers are sent.
ACER documentation - in particular, please read the Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Guide (GMAC).

We don't give medical advice on this forum
Although this forum has medical professionals, medical students and members of allied health professions among its membership, no medical advice will be offered on this site.
